Short answer

An office cleaning walkthrough is a visit where the provider sees your space and learns how your team uses it. You share the basics (size, schedule, busiest areas, building rules), walk the office together, and then receive a written proposal covering the areas, tasks, frequency, supplies, and pricing. It isn't a commitment to hire.

If you're considering hiring a commercial cleaning company, the first step is often a walkthrough of your office. This gives the provider an opportunity to understand your space, ask questions, and recommend a service plan based on how the workplace is actually used.

At Nomad Facilities, the walkthrough is designed to be simple and useful. Here's what to expect.

Step 1: Tell us about your workplace

Before visiting, we'll ask for some basic information about your office. That may include:

  • Office location
  • Approximate square footage
  • Number of employees using the space
  • Current or preferred cleaning schedule
  • Services you're considering
  • Specific challenges you're trying to address

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. If you're unsure how often your office should be cleaned or whether you need daytime support, we can discuss those questions during the walkthrough.

Step 2: Walk through the space together

The walkthrough helps us understand the layout and the areas that need the most attention. We'll generally review restrooms, kitchens, workstations, conference rooms, common areas, and relevant floor finishes. We'll also ask about how your office operates.

When is your office busiest? This helps determine when cleaning should take place.

Which areas receive the most use? A heavily used pantry may need more frequent attention than a quiet meeting room.

Are there specialty surfaces? Marble, stone, hardwood, glass, and certain floor finishes may require specific products or methods.

Does your building have special requirements? We'll want to understand access, insurance requirements, and scheduling restrictions.

Are there any recurring problems? If your current provider frequently misses certain tasks, this is the time to discuss those concerns.

Step 3: Review the proposed cleaning program

After assessing the office, we'll prepare a written proposal. The proposal is designed to make the scope and expectations clear before you decide to begin service. It typically addresses:

  • Areas to be cleaned
  • Tasks included in each area
  • Service frequency
  • Supply responsibilities
  • Pricing
  • Optional and periodic services

The goal is to recommend a program that reflects what your workplace actually needs. Our guide to office cleaning costs in NYC explains how hours and frequency shape the price.

Step 4: Coordinate onboarding

If you decide to move forward, we'll coordinate the details needed to begin service. This includes reviewing building access requirements, arranging necessary insurance documentation, confirming the schedule, and preparing the assigned team.

Our cleaners receive site-specific training so they understand the scope, access procedures, and important details of your office. You'll also have a designated point of contact for ongoing communication.

What should you prepare?

You don't need extensive documentation, but a few details can help:

  • Approximate square footage or floor plan
  • Current cleaning schedule
  • Services you're considering
  • Relevant building access requirements
  • Desired service start date
  • General budget or expectations, if established

If you're replacing an existing provider, it may also be useful to explain what's working and what needs improvement.

Is a walkthrough a commitment to hire Nomad?

No. Submitting a walkthrough request starts a conversation. It isn't a service booking or an obligation to sign a contract. It's an opportunity to evaluate your workplace, discuss your needs, and determine whether we're a good fit.

The bottom line

The right office cleaning program starts with understanding the office itself. A thoughtful walkthrough helps establish the scope, schedule, and expectations that will guide the cleaning relationship.
